01Independent interface study

Product / Interface

Review Queue

Keep the work, the reason and the next step in the same view.

A fictional interface concept for creative review. Independently developed for this template; no client commission.

02The brief

The file is only half the decision.

Keep a creative draft and its review question together. Here, a poster explores whether a fold reads as one continuous surface.

Leave room to inspect the work, and make a missing source file clear before approval.

Three creative prints arranged for selection, with one brought forward.
Curation — choosing what needs attention. AI-generated conceptual illustration.

03The overview

A queue with a point of view.

Each draft has a question, a version and a clear next step. The queue keeps all three in view.

Desktop review queue with three synthetic drafts. Fold is selected; its decision prompt and missing-source status stay visible. A separately authored narrow-screen rendition is shown on smaller displays.
03Three drafts. One decision.
An inspection lens magnifies a textile detail while the surrounding material remains visible.
Context — inspect the detail without losing the whole. AI-generated conceptual illustration.

04A design decision

Give the reason a permanent place.

A stable side panel holds the question, version and approval requirements. The work keeps the larger share of the canvas.

Full review-context panel showing the version, decision question, review instructions and missing-source prerequisite.
04A place for the question.

Prerequisites — make the missing connection explicit. AI-generated conceptual illustration.

05Designed states

A review can continue. An approval cannot.

Three static states follow one draft, from first look to an unresolved requirement.

  1. Find the decision

See the question and the missing source before opening the draft.

  2. Inspect with context

A large preview keeps the work close to its review question.

Fold poster preview beside a review-context panel asking whether the fold reads as a continuous surface. The preview is attached; the editable source is missing. A separately authored narrow-screen rendition is shown on smaller displays.
S2The work and its review context.
  3. An original photographic negative above its contact print, beside an empty archival sleeve.
Source — the preview is not the original. AI-generated conceptual illustration.

    Explain the stop

Name what is missing and give the reviewer a clear next step.

Full blocked-approval panel, including the missing-source explanation, prerequisites, Request source and unavailable Approve. A separately authored narrow-screen rendition is shown on smaller displays.
    S3Request the missing source.
The same three ceramic elements arranged vertically and horizontally.
Reflow — the same order, in a different space. AI-generated conceptual illustration.

An adapted phone view

One column. The same decision.

Preview, question, requirements. A single column preserves that order, with the action following the explanation.

Phone review: Fold preview, decision question, preview-attached and source-missing prerequisites, then an illustrated Request source action. Approval remains unavailable.
MOne reading order on mobile.

06The tradeoff

Context has a spatial cost.

Two arrangements. One deliberate choice to keep the question beside the work.

  1. 01 / Alternative

    Preview first

Give the artwork the entire view. Bring in its version, question and prerequisites only when needed.

TradeoffMore room for the work, but context becomes another thing to open and remember.

  2. 02 / Chosen for this study

    Context alongside

Reserve a stable place for the decision. Reflow that same information below the preview on a phone.

TradeoffLess room on desktop and a longer phone page. Dense or very long reviews still need investigation.

Next: test how much context remains useful before the panel becomes a distraction.
